When Time Out Market launches a new restaurant concept, it’s our duty to try the menu, try the dishes, and recommend the best to our readers. So are seasonal drinks and specialty cocktails served at the bar. I’m not going to sit here and pretend I don’t enjoy this part of the job.
As we say goodbye to January and welcome a new month, it’s time to focus on Time Out Market’s newest selection of liquors. Inspired by the season of love, these four Valentine’s Day-themed pieces ($13 each) will be available at the bar from February 1 through his entire February.
Before recommending the same, please know the following: Sitting alone at a bar at noon, surrounded by multiple full-her cocktails in varying shades of magenta, invites gazes from strangers. And (because of the alcohol) you’re likely to strike up a silly conversation with a stranger.
So without further ado, here are February’s cocktail specials at Time Out Market, and our thoughts on each. The next time you go to a bar, you might get some news and feel a little more cheerful. Cheers to all the Valentine’s Day lovers out there.
1. Sour Heart
This is a silky, bittersweet take with a hint of sourness. A base of Aperol and a few dashes of orange bitters round out the grassy notes of gin, while simple syrup, fresh lemon juice and, of course, egg white froth smooth everything out. It is an easy drinker and seemingly a heavy drinker.
2. Rose 75
This is a fun pink alternative to mimosas at brunch, a classic French 75-inspired preparation. Light and not too sweet, with a welcome lemon tartness. Rose gin gives this cocktail its color and delicate floral notes (adding that extra booze pungency), while Prosecco her topper makes all the fizz.
3. Feel the love
This is basically a Cosmo but made with triple sec instead of cointreau and served with lime instead of lemon. Call her Sweet Tart. All we know is that vodka and cranberry juice are a winning combination every time.
4. happy ending
Yes, the name is questionable. But the intent behind this caffeine cocktail is pure. Anejo he made with tequila, Baileys, tiramisu, faretti liqueur, espresso and simple syrup, this treat is the perfect end to your next delicious meal at the market.
