Chinese New Year has landed this Sunday, with delicious events. One is a famous TV cooking class featuring her chef Martin Yang, but tickets sell out quickly. The other is an Asian-inspired afternoon tea service that runs on multiple dates. We also have plans for whiskey dinners, beer dinners, and wine shopping.
Wednesday, January 18th
Tea at Adolf: Lunar New Year Celebration
The Adolphus’ French Room celebrates Chinese New Year with an Asian-inspired high tea menu. The menu includes delicious courses of dim sum and traditional pastries with East Asian flavors. $75 ($35 for children under 12) includes a glass of champagne and two of his teas. Reservations are available Wednesday through Sunday from 11 AM to 3 PM through January 29th.
Wine tasting at Tricky Fish
Seafood chain Richardson Outlets hosts wine tastings where you can share many dishes. A guest is greeted with a glass of Prosecco, followed by his four tastings of different varietals. Classes are $40 and run from 6:00pm until he is 7:30pm.
Robert Burns Day Whiskey Dinner at Knife Plano
In honor of Scottish poet Robert Burns’ National Day, Knife Plano presents the four-course ‘Burns Supper’. In the traditional Burns dinner fashion, whiskey accompanies each dish. Menu highlights include grilled quail with French fries salad, swordfish and rapini, 44 Farm New York strip au poivre, and whiskey bread his pudding. Dinner is $125, tax and tip included, and begins at 6:30 PM.

Deep Elm Wine Walk: Toast to the New Year
The Shops of Deep Ellum are hosting the first Sip and Shop of the new year. Purchase a glass of wine ($15 in advance, $20 on the day) and browse the various stores, tasting the wines at each. Please check in at 2650 Main Street. The walk takes place from 6pm to 9pm.
Friday, January 20th
Beef and beer dinner at Oak Highlands Brewery
The Northeast Dallas brewery has partnered with Designer Beef to host a four-course beer pairing dinner featuring prime cuts. Tickets cost $40 and each course is paired with a different Oak Highland beer. Dinner starts at 7pm.
Sunday, January 22nd
Lunar New Year at Wok Star Chinese
The Hill’s Asian restaurant will feature performances by traditional lion dancers and unveil cocktails and appetizers available through February. Originating from the Hunan/Hubei region of China, rice pearl meatballs on sticky rice, or Chinju Manzi, are considered a holiday or special occasion dish that often appears in Chinese New Year and birthday banquet dinners. The festival starts at 3:00 pm.
Celebrate the Year of the Rabbit with Martin Yang at Central Market
Iconic TV chef Martin Yang will host a cooking class in person at Central Market on Lovers Lane to celebrate Chinese New Year. Multi-course demonstrations such as roasted chicken salad, seafood in a ‘golden cup’, sweet and sour fish and wok-cooked ‘longevity noodles’ are inundated with bookings. Yan has hosted over 3,500 cooking shows and has written over 30 books.he started his own class Jan Can Cook 1978 television series. The class is $90 and airs from 5pm to 7pm.

Grandscape Restaurant Week
From January 23rd to 30th, Grandscape’s participating restaurants will offer special menus intended to showcase some of the most popular dishes. Participating restaurants include Barley & Board, Heritage Pizza & Taproom and Seven Doors Kitchen. Some spots offer discounts on set menus, while others offer a selection of multi-course dinners at per person prices. See the full menu here.
