Was it a big day?

No, the £20,000 class 2 handicap was the most valuable contest with 8 race cards. It was the only meeting of the weekend held in the UK, but it collided with the World Cup final between Argentina and France.

What was the entrance fee to the gate?

£19.50 for adults and £5 discount for Racegoers Club. Children attended the conference for free, marketed as a Festive Family Fun Day.

What were your food and drink options besides restaurants/hospitality?

Award-winning sausage rolls and pies were sold at the Piglet Pantry booth, while the racecourse standard beef, cheese and chicken burgers and fries were served at the same kiosk.

Donna Italia’s pepperoni and margherita pizza was another option. But by far the most popular draw was the well-stocked sweet stall. Most parents mandated that their children stock up on pick and mix.

What was the damage?

water bottle: £2.50
Cheapest pint:
£5.60 (Carlsberg)
Guinness:
£6.20
Champagne:
No champagne or prosecco
Burger: £7.50 (with fries)

All drink prices are taken from the main racetrack bar, or a randomly selected bar if there is more than one.

How was your cheeseburger?

Not terrible, but not the best I’ve had on a racetrack either. It did the job but the meat had me recollection About dinner in the old school building. The bun, lettuce, cheese and tomato somewhat offset the rather bland tasting burger.

And queue?

The line around the bar was fine, but we waited 5-10 minutes for people to get their burgers, chips and pizza.

what did the punter say?

I come here often because it’s cheap and I like to gamble. My dad thinks Uttoxeter’s food is good, but the chips are good.
