Starbucks is adding new limited-edition cold brew options, reflecting continued sales growth in the cold beverage category for coffee chains and the industry at large.
The coffee giant unveiled its Pistachio Cream Cold Brew today. The new iced option is part of Starbucks’ winter menu. The drink is sweetened with vanilla syrup and topped with pistachio cream cold foam and brown butter sprinkles.
In addition to cold brew, pistachio latte returns to the menu along with the bakery item Red Velvet Loaf.
All options are available for a limited time.
In the release, Starbucks beverage team member Rosalyn Batingan called the new cold brew a perfect flavor for the holidays and winter months.
The decision to introduce cold drinks comes as ice stays hot for the Seattle-based company.
Two-thirds of beverages served in the U.S. are cold, Starbucks executive Michelle Burns said at Investor Day 2022. Interim CEO Howard Schultz said in a call with analysts that cold coffee options account for 76% of total beverage sales in the United States.
Starbucks is looking to engage consumers with its Pistachio Cold Brew following the success of its fall menu lineup. The Fall 2022 Pumpkin Spice platform saw a 17% surge, partly due to the ability to customize with Pumpkin Cream Cold Form.
On Investor Day, Starbucks unveiled its own handheld cold foamer as part of a reinvention plan to increase “beverage quality” and “improve speed of service while reducing complexity for partners.” .
Starbucks CFO Rachel Ruggeri told Yahoo Finance that customization is key when it comes to future growth. Personalize your drink. “I think it helps differentiate Starbucks,” she added.
