Boca Raton, Fla. — International rapper and recording artist Flo Rida appears in court in South Florida on Tuesday.
The rapper is suing Boca Raton-based Celsius Holdings.
The lawsuit ends a deal in which an energy drink company off the Federal Highway in Boca Raton will pay the rapper tens of millions of dollars in profits he said he made from promoting the Celsius drink. He claims he didn’t.
Flo Rida, whose real name is Tramar Russell Dillard, promoted the energy drink in music videos and on social media thanks to an endorsement deal arranged by a Wellington-based company called D3M Licensing Group in 2014.
Since then, the stock price of Celsius has skyrocketed. It is now often referred to as Flow His Rider’s Drink.
However, the rapper’s legal team said that between 2014 and 2016, the company did not pay Flo Rida any bonuses or notify him when drink sales would have triggered his stock compensation. .
The energy drink company will bring in $130 million in sales in 2021, according to the Miami New Times.
Flo Rida’s team is seeking damages of at least $30,000. They plan to file their lawsuit in Broward County court on Tuesday.
