Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe kept Joelinton in the starting line-up against Fulham after the Brazilian midfielder was charged with DUI on Thursday.
After the match Howe explained: Ultimately I had to decide and I did. I didn’t underestimate what Joe did, but there were so many things to consider around it that in that moment it felt like this was the right decision. “
Joelinton, 26, was arrested Thursday at 1:20 a.m. on suspicion of driving above the alcohol limit.
He is scheduled to appear in the Newcastle Magistrate’s Court on 26 January.
Howe responded to whether Joelinton could be elected on Sunday. Well, I’m not 100% sure. “
Howe also spoke to the owner about the situation, and said the owner had “left it in his hands.”
Newcastle remain unchanged from Tuesday’s Carabao Cup win against Leicester City.
Joelinton scored the second goal against Leicester to send Newcastle to their first semi-final in 18 years.
Newcastle are fourth in the Premier League standings, with visitors Fulham in sixth, four goals behind.
