Lidl invested €1 billion in its Irish agri-food business last year, according to retailer reports.
According to the company’s latest Supplier Impact Report, an investment of €682 million was spent on products for Irish stores.
The remaining €318 million worth of Irish food and beverages was exported to stores in other countries.
“Since 2018 we have been working hard to increase our offering to our customers, expanding our product range by more than 40% and tripling our buying team to focus on sourcing as many Irish products as possible, We are helping our customers to have a full shop at Lidl, where they also buy the highest quality Irish products,” said JP Scally, CEO of Lidl Ireland and Northern Ireland.
“We look forward to cultivating new and fruitful supplier partnerships and leading even more local businesses to success in the coming year.”
Lidl said it had over 400 Irish suppliers as of last year.
At the beginning of 2022, Lidl signed a €20 million supply deal with Cork-based Keohane Seafoods. Keohane Seafoods has seen products stocked in his Lidl stores in countries such as the UK, Germany and the US.
Last month, the retailer agreed a €17 million deal with Tipperary ham and bacon producer Honeyvale Foods, which now exports to Lidl stores in Portugal, Poland and Denmark.
Lidl also invested €7 million in a Kickstart Supplier Development Program supported by Bord Bia.
“Over the past 20 years, Lidl has demonstrated a strong commitment to sourcing Irish agricultural products, offering a wide range of Irish food, beverage and horticultural producers access to Ireland’s large customer base and export opportunities. O’Toole.
