Apple cider vinegar has become a popular home remedy in recent years and has been used in cooking and medicine for centuries. It is said to be effective against eczema and acid reflux, but it is not scientifically proven.
Apple cider vinegar is considered good for the whole body as it is a good source of nutrients such as potassium, magnesium, calcium and vitamin C. Apple cider vinegar is usually added to sauces, salad dressings and marinades. It is consumed with food as

Some people drink apple cider vinegar diluted with hot or cold water. Pills, tablets, powders and gummies also exist. Diluted apple cider vinegar can also be applied topically in baths, wet wraps, or hair rinses.
Studies have shown that apple cider vinegar has both antibacterial and antioxidant effects, including anti-oral biofilm effects. It consists of a sticky layer. In theory, this means it may be able to reduce plaque levels on your teeth, but there are no clinical studies testing this.
Aside from the lack of evidence, there’s another important reason why apple cider vinegar isn’t the best option for reducing plaque: it’s not diluted. This includes the soft tissues in your mouth as well as your teeth and tooth enamel.
teeth and acid
Enamel is the mineralized substance that covers our teeth and is the hardest tissue in the human body. But the main part of the tooth is the dentin, which lies beneath the enamel. Dentin is also a hard, bone-like tissue that connects directly to the pulp at the center of the tooth, which contains nerves and blood vessels.

Enamel helps protect your teeth from chewing, chewing, hot and cold temperatures, and potentially harmful chemicals. This can damage your enamel over time. Acids can dissolve and soften the minerals in your enamel, which can lead to thinning of your enamel over time. This is true if you brush your teeth or chew hard food immediately after an acid attack, which can accelerate enamel loss.

Teeth can become more sensitive as the acids in vinegar erode the enamel. This means that the dentin layer under the enamel is more sensitive because it is directly connected to the nerves inside the tooth, so it responds to hot or cold foods, drinks and sweets. In one more advanced case, when the enamel is completely eroded by acid, the dentin becomes exposed and unprotected. At this stage, the teeth are eroded and wear and tear much faster.
What should I do
The dentist can recognize this problem by looking at the shape and color of the teeth, asking about sensitive teeth, and looking at the patient’s dietary history to identify acid-containing foods and drinks. When it comes to dentures, some dentists actually recommend soaking acrylic dentures in diluted vinegar because of its antifungal properties and ability to dissolve calcified plaque deposits (tartar).
That said, a thin layer of protein and mucus from saliva forms a layer over the enamel and helps protect it from acids. , can remineralize the outer layer of damaged enamel, but this usually takes several hours. Fluoride in toothpaste and mouthwash also strengthens the outer enamel layer.

Therefore, if you want to drink apple cider vinegar regularly and avoid tooth decay, it is best to follow a few rules. Always dilute apple cider vinegar with water and drink it through a straw to protect your teeth. Also, consuming apple cider vinegar with your main meal can help reduce the number of acid attacks per day.

Avoid apple cider vinegar products that require chewing, such as acidic gummies. Also, don’t brush your teeth right before or after drinking apple cider vinegar. Instead, wait about 30 minutes. When brushing, be gentle (not too abrasive), use a fluoridated toothpaste, and do not use a hard toothbrush. To find out if apple cider vinegar is safe to use on your teeth, you can also talk to your dentist about your risk of erosion.
