Holiday seasons such as Hanukkah, Christmas and New Year are festive times that many of us celebrate with family, friends and colleagues.
We often have holiday parties where we eat, drink and have a good time. If you consume alcohol during the holiday season, please do so safely.
The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety has provided the following tips for safe travel during the holidays.
• Plan ahead with your designated driver. Don’t wait until you start drinking.
• If you suddenly want to drive home in a sober car, call a sober friend, a taxi, or a rideshare service.
• If you are inviting several family members or friends to the celebration, provide non-alcoholic beverages for the designated driver and provide accommodation options for guests who may have a driving disability.
- If you see a drunk driver on the street, call 911, GSP, or local law enforcement.
According to the Georgia Patrol, 33 people were killed in crashes during the 2020 78-hour Christmas and 78-hour New Year holidays. From 6:00 pm December 27, 2020 to 6:00 pm December 31, 2020 to 11:59 pm January 3, 2021, 13 people died.
