In his 18 years in law enforcement, he spent chasing seven drunk drivers. Sergeant Lafave holds a record of his DUI arrests in excess of 3,000 within NMSP.

Sergeant LaFave feels guilty when he fails to catch DUI suspects as his unit tracks them down the street every day.

“They are endangering themselves and innocent people on the road,” Lafave said. Sometimes it’s going to someone’s family, who usually know it’s not good news.”

He has one message for anyone thinking of getting behind the wheel after drinking.

“Don’t do it. Don’t make us your Uber,” Lafave said.
