After being stopped twice by police in the space of two hours, the couple were arrested for drinking and drug driving.
At about 1:44am on Friday (16th December), police pulled over the car after seeing it running erratically on the M55 between Blackpool and Preston.
The driver, a 38-year-old man from South Yorkshire, was arrested on suspicion of drug driving but was later released under investigation.
His partner, whose vehicle was insured, was left to drive the car away from the scene.
But less than two hours later, at 3:18 am, Preston police stopped the car again on Lytham Road.
When the woman was spoken to, she was breath-tested by police and blew 89. The legal limit is 35.
She was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
A police spokesperson said Friday, “Our officers stopped the same car twice in the space of several hours and arrested a couple for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
“A white Citroen (pictured) was pulled up today (Friday 16 December) at 1:44am after it was seen driving the M55 erratically between Blackpool and Preston. rice field.
“A 38-year-old man from South Yorkshire has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving. He has since been released following an investigation.
“His partner, the insured, drove the car off the scene.
“At 3:18 am, she was at the wheel when the car stopped again on Lytham Road, Preston.
“A 50-year-old man was found to be over the DUI limit after a breath test and was arrested on suspicion of excessive DUI.
“She was released on bail to appear in Preston Magistrate’s Court on February 2nd.”
