CounterAttack campaign: Kelowna RCMP issue reminder not to drink and drive – Okanagan

Don’t drink and drive.

Here is a message from the Kelowna RCMP. On Saturday night, jubilant people prepare to welcome the New Year.

Police say road checks will be set up throughout Kelowna to look for drivers with disabilities as part of the RCMP’s statewide and annual CounterAttack campaign.

Now in its 35th year, the campaign is an annual reminder for drivers to make a plan to return home responsibly. This year’s campaign started on his November 30th.

“Unfortunately, impaired driving still kills an average of more than 60 people each year in British Columbia, with more than 1,700 impaired driving-related crashes,” police said. One law imposes severe penalties on drivers with disabilities, he added.

According to police, if you plan to drink alcohol or take drugs of any kind on New Year’s Eve or any other night, please plan alternative transportation in advance.

“Ensuring road safety throughout the year is a priority for our team,” said Const, Mike Della Paorella.

“We understand that people will be celebrating the New Year on Saturday night and have a good time, but we need to remember everyone is safe and make plans to get home safely. Our team I will do my best this weekend.
