ColaJazz to host Drink Small Concert at State Museum Feb. 4

The ColaJazz Foundation will host a concert to celebrate Drink Small’s 90th birthday on February 4th from 5:00pm to 7:30pm at the SC State Museum.

COLUMBIA, South Carolina (WOLO) – The Cola Jazz Foundation will host a concert celebrating Drink Small’s 90th birthday on February 4 from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm at the South Carolina State Museum.

The event pays tribute to the blues legend and features performances by him and fellow blues legends Mac Arnold & Plate Full O’ Blues.

A Bishopville native, he began his career as a gospel performer and has toured with the Staples Singers and Sam Cooke. He became famous for his low-pitched profondo voice, his Piedmont style guitar, and his stage banter known as “drinkism”.

The concert will run alongside Drink Small Day, which the museum is dedicated to honoring Small’s musical career, officials said.

Your concert ticket includes admission to the museum where attendees can enjoy:

• Selected Drink Small Exhibits: This exhibit will be on display throughout February, featuring photographs, musical instruments and memorabilia of Drink Small’s life, legacy and career.
• Community Art: A new piece of art featuring a guitar made out of guitar picks.
• Activity for Kids: Get a cardboard guitar and let the kids decorate it.
• Drink Small music: Drink Small music will be played in all exhibits and galleries.
• Birthday Presentation: At 4:30 PM, Drink Small will be presented with a birthday cake in honor of his 90th birthday.

Tickets can be purchased at Drinks Small Day.
