Celebrating best of Derry food and drink with launch of ‘Love LegenDerry’ food month


Ms Sandra Duffy, Mayor of the City of Delhi and Strabane District Council, kicked off a month-long celebration of the city and district’s thriving food and beverage scene.

Love LegendDerry runs throughout February and features a program of events and initiatives that allow locals and visitors to sample the best of the cuisine.

Members of the Legendary Food Network, in partnership with the Council and Visit Delhi, put together an exciting program of events and experiences to celebrate the vibrant food and drink scene in the city and beyond.

“The Legendary Food Network has made significant progress over the past few years, enhancing our range and quality of food and beverages,” said Mayor Duffy.

“The city and district are now firmly established as food destinations, with more and more tourists coming to try the locally produced foods and drinks.

“Love LegendDerry celebrates how far we have come and encourages locals and tourists to venture out across the city and district to try our authentic experience for themselves. .”

Municipality of Delhi and Strabane District Council Tourism Manager Margaret Edwards elaborated on the initiative.

“The overall goal of the Love LegendDerry campaign is to promote economic benefits by extending the food tourism season and encourage visitors to travel here, stay overnight and try our food experience. .

“This will enhance the reputation of our food and beverages by using locally sourced ingredients, increasing awareness of local origins, superior quality and value for money, and by extending peak seasons. It is intended to give an economic boost to our food business.

“Members of the network have created a series of special events during the month to highlight and celebrate the thriving scene here.”

Events include producer encounters at a long table event with sodas, starches and artis, a special Valentine’s Gin-making experience at Wold City Brewery, afternoon tea at the White Horse Hotel, and a French-inspired Irish set menu. Includes a new foodie fusion experience by cooking.

Also enjoy a special couples culinary experience, visit a Spellins goat farm, find out about cheese making, participate in an urban foraging, and experience a ‘Wine, Wild, Waste’ tasting dinner. , talks and the Zero Waste and Oyster and Robust Bluegrass Festival at the Walled City Brewery.

The LegenDerry Food Brand and Network was established in February 2019 by the Council and the private sector with ambitious plans to build a unique food offering in the Northwest as part of a wider food and beverage strategy for the Council region. We are promoting.
