Prosecutor Mikel Groves told the Newport Magistrate’s Court:

“It was relatively quiet, but there were customers around.

“He entered the seating area and exposed his artificial penis.

“Defendant put false genitalia in someone’s drink.

“CCTV indicated that some customers were experiencing an element of distress and he was asked to leave the facility.

“The defendant became very aggressive and had a glass bottle that he threw at the bandits and shattered the screen.”

Hawthorne, of Dylan Drive, Caerphilly, pleaded guilty to criminal damages and obstruction of justice charges.

He committed the crime while subject to a 12-month community order on September 14, 2022.

Ed Mitchard, representing Hawthorne, said, “This was a drunken prank and he was asked to leave the facility as a result.

“Most people laughed when it happened, but some were offended.

“The defendant was then pushed by a member of staff.”

Mitchard added that Hawthorne has abused alcohol and has “experienced trauma in his life.”

The court was told that the defendant used to work as a handyman but now claims a profit.

Hawthorne was fined £120 for causing criminal damage and £80 for breaking public order.

He has to pay £400 in damages to the thief, £85 in prosecution costs and £80 in victim’s surcharge.

The total to pay is £765.

The defendant was sentenced to two years and five months in prison in 2018 after pleading guilty to bodily injury with intent to attack her ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend.
