The Boiling Water Advisory for Riodell was lifted at 8:30 am on Wednesday, December 28th. Residents of the city’s water districts have been advised that the city’s water is safe to drink at this time.
“If the water pressure is low, clean the faucet screens.” Everyone should have water, except for the houses with the red tag. Rinse until clear through. If there is no water, make sure the water has stopped on the street, as many volunteers turned off the water to their homes immediately after the earthquake.”
Jensen said addressing water leaks on city streets is a priority right now and that if anyone notices the problem, they should call the Riodell City Hall at 707-764-3532. Added.
Rio del City Manager Kyle Knopp added that the city wants to reach out to anyone in the city who is having trouble getting in touch with landlords regarding rental home repairs.
A local support center is tentatively scheduled at Monument Middle School on Friday, December 30th and Saturday, December 31st. The center will include resources to assist residents displaced by the earthquake. As of December 28, 25 homes are red-tagged as uninhabitable and 69 homes are yellow-tagged, meaning they need minor repairs. Knopf advises residents to heed information from the California and Humboldt County Emergency Services Departments.
The Rio Dell Chamber of Commerce and the Rio Dell Community Resource Center have offered to facilitate donations and resource distribution later this week from 406 Wildwood Avenue. The city is currently asking those interested in donating items to visit the Pay It Forward Humboldt Facebook page for a current list of requested items. Please do not bring unwanted items to the fundraising center. Secondary emergencies may occur, such as sorting and disposal of donations.
The City is also requiring everyone who volunteers during an emergency, whether the service is small or large, to complete the ICS-214 form, which documents their volunteer hours. This document will help the city work with state agencies for disaster relief funding. Forms are available at the Rio Dell Volunteer Fire Department and Rio Dell City Hall, or online at the city’s website, cityofriodell.ca.gov.
“Rio Dell and other members of the larger community stepped up out of love for the community with no expectation of anything in return,” says City Manager Kyle Knopp. “That said, it is imperative that all volunteer time spent in the community is recorded and documented. We ask everyone to do this as a separate service to the community.”
“The City would like to thank the many organizations, individuals and institutions who have selflessly provided support and services,” said Mayor Debra Garness. “Rio Dell is a community of neighbors who help their neighbors, but we are also part of a wider community that cares for each other in times of great need. In many ways, this disaster has affected our small town. We are still learning the full extent of the impact, and we know there is still much work to be done.”
