In the United States, the average American adult drinks at least one cup of coffee a day, and that number is rising as more people work from home.
After processing the numbers provided by Statista, the data analyst safe betting site We found that 79% of coffee lovers in the US drink at least two cups a day when they’re at home on weekdays.
Meanwhile, 62% of coffee drinkers have take-out coffee at least once a week, and 20% take take-out coffee every day.
Drip coffee remains the preferred way Americans enjoy coffee, with 36% of respondents saying it’s their favorite. More than half (51%) of US adults also agreed that coffee is pure pleasure for me.
79% of American coffee lovers drink 2 or more cups of coffee a day
More Americans have been working from home since the COVID-19 pandemic began, and for some, that means drinking more coffee.
According to a recent survey by Statista, 79% of American coffee lovers drink at least two cups per day when they’re home on weekdays.
Only 21% of respondents said they drink less than one cup of coffee at home.
A study provided by Statista analyzed the habits of 831 daily coffee drinkers in the United States between the ages of 18 and 74.
By comparison, 31% of respondents drank 4-6 cups of coffee per day, 20% drank 3 cups and 27% drank 2 cups of coffee per day.
62% of coffee drinkers buy take-out coffee at least once a week.
Coffee lovers don’t just drink coffee at home.
In fact, 44% of Americans drink takeout coffee at least once a week. This compares to 21% who said he drank one take-out coffee a week and 38% who said he drank take-out coffee less often or never.
Overall, 20% of coffee drinkers say they have at least one takeaway coffee each day.
Drip coffee (36%) is America’s favorite way to drink coffee
The survey also asked Americans to rate their favorite method of brewing coffee.
Good old drip coffee continues to be Americans’ favorite way to drink coffee, with 36% of respondents saying they like it.
Cappuccino (11%), iced coffee (10%) and instant coffee (9%) are next on the list of Americans’ favorite ways to drink coffee.

74% of Americans drink coffee every day
Of course, this isn’t the first time Statista has surveyed Americans about their coffee-drinking habits.
The findings confirm another Statista survey from the summer.
In June 2022, Statista asked 1,592 Americans how often they drink coffee. 17.5% of the respondents answered “almost every day”, while a whopping 73.9% of the respondents answered “every day”.
On the other hand, only 8.5% said they drink coffee occasionally.
Coffee is the second most popular drink after bottled water
Coffee remains America’s favorite drink, according to a Statista poll that surveyed more than 7,500 US adults from October 2021 to September 2022.
In fact, bottled water is the only beverage of choice consumed by more Americans (63%).
Coffee, soft drinks (56%), juices (50%) and tea (48%) are also among the most consumed beverages by US adults.
In terms of alcohol, beer (25%) surpassed wine (24%) as the most popular alcoholic beverage in the United States.
