In recent years, vowing to observe a dry January ahead of all alcoholic beverages has been one of the most popular New Year’s resolutions. have been found to fail by 19%, showing that only 19% of individuals achieve their goals.
The result was a new trend of trying Damp January instead. As the name suggests, this is a more relaxed effort that encourages people to drink less or be more conscious rather than quitting alcohol altogether. This trend is becoming more and more popular as people seek more sustainable, affordable and easy to maintain solutions.
Whether you want to dry off completely or try Damp January, here are some drink ideas to help you transition after New Year’s Eve revelry.
DRY botanical bubbly
Founded by Sharrell Krauss, a mother of four who wanted a zero-proof adult alternative to wine, DRY Sodas is a single flavor sparkling non-alcoholic beverage with unique botanical flavors. 1 oz. Zero-proof whiskey (Lilaz, etc.)

Toasted cinnamon sticks for garnish
Add ice, tea tincture, and zero proof whiskey to a mixing glass and chill well. Strain into a coupe glass and top with Spiced Pear Reserve. For the garnish, carefully light one end of the cinnamon stick with a torch and blow it out. Place a smoking cinnamon stick on top of the glass.
Tea tincture:
2 bags of rooibos tea (or 2 teaspoons)
½ cinnamon stick
Bring 8 oz. Bring water to a boil in a small saucepan and add half the cinnamon stick and both rooibos tea bags. Let the tea steep for 10 minutes, then strain through a fine sieve or tea strainer. Allow to cool, then refrigerate in an airtight container.
